Think about dating for a quick second. No one goes into a dating relationship with the intention of ignoring the other’s wishes. (Well, some may... but they won’t be dating long.) Just think about trying to pick a movie on a date. She wants to see the latest “chick flick,” and he wants to see the movie that has tricked-out cars. Some couples “discuss” (code word for friendly fighting) their movie choices so long that they miss the start time for both and end up watching a foreign film with subtitles. In the same way it would be wrong for a person on a road trip to find God to open up to God but give no thought to the possibility that God may want to “pick a different movie” when we are in a relationship with him.

Now some people are fearful that God never wants to even see a movie or worse... wants to make them into someone who wears a tie all the time and carries a big black Bible. But nothing could be further from the truth! God has created you to be in a relationship with him. Through the Bible God tells us that he wants us to enjoy this life in a way that’s in line with his purpose for us. In fact the Bible says that God wants us to live life to the fullest...like a spirited dance!

This question needs to be asked: Do you realize that God wants to be a powerful presence in your life, not just an idea in your head?

Many people on this road trip want to give reasons for rejecting the Bible, but the truth is, they are not willing to give up some activity they know is against God’s plan for their life. If that’s you, you need to know that God will take you as you are, but he doesn’t want to leave you as you are. He wants you to let him make you into what he desgined you to be.
